Report: FRK Broadband Congress

This is how Cable!Vision magazine enthusiastically reported on the event in its 5th edition of 2020:

“The Broadband Congress of the German Broadcasting and Broadband Communications Association (Fachverband Rundfunk- und Breitband-Kommunikation / FRK) is regarded as a small but nevertheless important event, from which many important impulses, initiatives, and ideas for the entire market emanate.

This year once again, the congress lived up to its role; a feat worth applauding especially considering it was the first event where the industry could meet face-to-face since the outbreak of the Corona pandemic. Despite everything, more than 300 experts met in Leipzig (on September 28th and 29th, 2020), in full compliance of course with Saxony’s Corona-specific hygiene rules.

With considerable effort and commitment by its office in particular and all those involved in the preparations, the FRK successfully enabled person-to-person meetings again, the exchange of information directly with exhibitors, and the discussion of important future-related topics for medium-sized businesses.

The significance of this personal exchange for SMEs was reflected by the themes of accelerated fibre optic expansion, public funding, private financing, and the upgrading of in-house cabling (level-4 network), which are of great importance for the future.”

An event highlight from our perspective was the technical presentation “Improving workflow and reducing costs by directly linking documentation and measurement technology”. This was jointly held by our Senior Key Account Manager Helmut Schenk together with Diarmuid Kelly from AND Solution GmbH, right at the start of the congress. KWS Electronic Test Equipment GmbH has been part of the AND Solution GmbH group of companies for almost two years, after all.

The presentation clearly demonstrated the user benefits gained by this software-hardware partnership. Using a mobile device such as tablet when out on the network KWS measurements can be initiated by clicking on a test point in the AND documentation. A direct comparison between AND target values and actual measurement results from the VAROS 107 is made in real-time. This allows the service technician to intervene directly if there are inconsistencies and resolve issues right away. As well as avoiding unnecessary truck rolls there is also the non-trivial matter of ensuring customer services are maintained. The conclusion is quite simple and obvious, “KWS and AND: Individually excellent—together even better!”
